I know I can’t be the only one when I say ‘sometimes I just want my favourite food but just wish there was a healthier option’ – especially when I’m dieting.
There are times when I NEED pizza. Emphasis on the need because that’s really what it is, an urge that can’t be satisfied by anything else – but my macro’s just wont allow it.
After some experimenting last night (along with some inspiration from my room mates), I managed to rustle up a low calorie option that was just as satisfying!
Did I mention it was a Nutella pizza!?
So, this blog is about your favourite foods, and ways that you can incorporate macro-friendly variants into your diet… Woohoo!
Do you like pizza? Try making it at home!
Step 1: Instead of using a traditional base, use a low calorie wrap (which not only has less calories but it also has up to 75% less carbs = mind blown)
Step 2: Use a sugar-free tomato/BBQ sauce (or another low calorie pizza sauce)
Side note: I made a tandoori pizza mixing some tandoori paste with 0% fat greek yoghurt for the base.
Step 3: Cook all your meat yourself, using minimal oil and then top it with all the veggies you want.
Step 4: Finish it off with a high protein, low fat cheese.
The recipes for the pizzas will be uploaded to my website
What about when you’re craving a chocolate bar?
Opt for a low carb protein bar instead – not only are they better for you but they will also keep you satisfied and feeling fuller for longer.
Ice cream?
There are so many lower-calorie options with solid macro’s available now that you don't have to feel guilty when indulging.
Almost all sorbet, sherbet, or frozen yogurts are a healthier alternative to ice cream.
Look out for no added sugar and low-fat options – SkinnyCow have a whole range of low-calorie ice creams that are delicious… OR, you even make your own ice cream using frozen fruit, greek yoghurt and some protein powder!
Moral of the story, for every high calorie meal there, there is a lower-calorie substitute available, and if there isn’t, its not hard to make one yourself.
